The other day, I was talking about famous onscreen couples with some coworkers. Not sure exactly how it came up, but I do remember voicing my particular view on quick to fall in love couples- such as Romeo and Juliet. (my view being that I think their relationship is the crappiest example of "love" I can think of; I am convinced that had they both lived, they would have fallen apart in like... under 2 years.) Anyway, someone made a simple question, might have even been kind of a passing or just for a point, but it got me thinking. The question being "I guess you don't believe in love at first sight, huh?" or something to that effect. I answered quickly and unapologeticly, "no". And I stand by my statement.
Here are my thoughts on love. Take them as you will.
First, I must do some defining, simply for argument's sake. 1. Love- In this argument, I will be focusing on romantic love. There are many types of love, including love for family, friends, and even inanimate objects. This is not the love I am arguing about. I do believe that love for those things can be instantaneous at times. 2. First Sight- For now, I am not really limiting this to the exact first moment you see someone. But instead anytime within a short time period, when you know either nothing, or just enough about someone, to only consider them a stranger. As soon as personal information comes into play, it is another level.
Now, to the argument. My biggest point is how I define love. This may differ from others, and that is why it is an argument, not a definition. I see love as a commitment. When you declare that you love someone, it speaks more than a feeling. Its underlying meaning is something along these lines. "I know who you are. I know that you have faults, I even know a few of these faults. I can say that even in spite of not being perfect, I am committing to dedicating my time, energy, and emotions to you. As of now, you are more important than me. I care more for your well-being than my own." How can you say this to someone who you do not know?
Other points- To me, a big deciding factor between love and lust is decision. Lust is simply a feeling. When someone makes you feel good. I have friend lust a lot. Which is a Mindy definition of when I see someone and wonder what it would be like to be friends with that person, most of the time because simply seeing them makes me happy. And I think that if just seeing them makes me happy- then being friends with them would rock. But love- real love- takes feeling one step further. (so notice that love has the feeling. Make no mistake, love has strong feeling attached). It says, "I see your strong feeling, and I raise you dedication." Makes it seem like someone is loosing in that scenario, but in love- all win. (yeah, I know, sorry about the mushy, corny mess I just made with that line).
So, at the end of the day, what do I believe in? Lust is the shiny outer layer, but love is still being happy that the present is slightly used. And not just happy, but ecstatic that there is more than an empty box; and the gift is the best you have ever received or ever will.
And so not to end on such a strange and Halmark card-esqe line- Here are some fun videos!!
I need to clean up my room in a major way. Didn't realize how bad it was until Lauren made a comment about how bad it looked. It was then that I took the time to actually look at my room. It was like my mind did not compute that I had to keep stepping over things, and moving objects to be able to get to my closet or even open the closet doors.
I will say this though- most of the stuff on the floor was part of the setting for our filming. I felt that it added some character to the scene, and was essential to explain the character.
On other news- I know when I am going home for the holidays! If you are in OK from Dec 20th - Jan. 3rd let me know! I want to see as many people as possible. (also, remember that this is no guarantee of seeing me; but I will attempt to make as many appearances as possible.
I drank so much coffee today. It has been hours since the last cup, and I can still not sit still. Yay for creating a character that radiates energy. She is great to play, but the best way to channel her is mainline caffeine.
Now begins the editing process.
I think we will also have a great blooper reel, though most of it was only captured in sound.
I love being creative. Not going to lie while working on our webseries, it is the happiest and more excited I have been in a very long time. We are really starting our series. And the real, tangible idea of working on a project brings joy to my heart in a way I can barely describe. On top of just doing a project; it is mine. Well, mine and a few other people, but the fact is that I have some ownership, and that is enough to swell pride in my heart.
I hope that it will entertain the masses (or at least 10 people). The name of the series is Standby Tickets. (look for it soon; coming to youtube, twitter, myspace, vieoh, and many other sites near you!!) Also, one of the characters is named TIM Metcalf, if they add you on facebook. Or if you want to add her.
On to other news. I have a new show addiction at the moment. Yes, I know I get very into shows from time to time. But right now it is Battlestar Galactica.
Great characters, amazing writing, propelling action, thought-provoking topics; I mean, who could ask for more?!?
One of my favorite things about the show is it's ability to attack sensitive subjects head on. The topics considered the most touchy of all in our society- Religion, politics, and sex. And the big one- religion IN politics. Forget that it is a Sci-Fi show, forget that it is in space, forget any conceptions you have of the show. Some of the best focuses of the show are -Are we as a species worthy of living? and Do you lead the whole human race based on faith (with a final destination in mind, but no guarantee in the present) or logic (with the present goal in mind, but no hope for a final destination for your people to settle)?
(nothing like copying the Last Supper for your cast picture. I am telling you, the religious subtext is ... well, maybe I shouldn't call it subtext since it is so obvious)
In honor of Halloween- I have decided to put a poem I found that I wrote back in 2001. It is called "Jack". Don't judge me too much.
This is a story of Jack the Ripper He saw a girl and just had to rip her, Whole body- from head to toe Til he heard footsteps and had to go. "Come to this room" one time he said. He then had time to chop off her head the cut up her face so that it could not go back into place. And then with many slices and cuts he cut her open to look at her guts. He found what he wanted, and took it out. He then left and wandered about. No man was put away for these crimes. But he was (supposedly) put away for a deranged mind. A deranged mind, of course. No normal mind would think to do something so gross.
